Long-Range Transportation Plan
Project Description
The Sioux Falls MPO, as the federally designated MPO for the Sioux Falls Metropolitan Planning Area (MPA), is responsible for developing a long-range transportation plan (LRTP) for the MPA. The Sioux Falls MPO’s LRTP was last updated in 2010 and served as the primary mechanism to allocate federal, state, and local transportation dollars to prioritize regionally significant transportation projects in a manner that best addresses regional growth, travel demand needs, transit needs, and preservation of the transportation system.
The LRTP looks at all modes of transportation including transit. Transit is anticipated to continue to be more important as the need for convenient options will increase as congestion increases and an aging population looks for alternative modes of travel.
Infrastructure Design Group, Inc. served as a subconsultant to Kimley-Horn in developing the MPO’s 2040 LRTP and assisted in various components of the plan including: public participation, agency coordination, multimodal planning, travel demand model input, cost estimating, and development of the final planning document.
